Dear Yuletide Writer,

Okay, first off, don't panic! It's not that I'm really asking you for bizarre moresomes, it's just that there are several specific characters I would like you to pick from. Okay? Cool.

Personally, I am not into incest, statutory rape, non-canonical character betrayal* by a fellow hero or adultery. (Poly is not adultery, to my mind, nor is any sort of standing agreement.)

I love adventure, plot, humor, heroism and friendship alone or in any combination you can give me. Also? Aliens.

The things I am asking for are not just rare, they're super-rare. At least two have never been ficced before, as far as I can tell, one I am not sure of, and the other has something like two fics ever. Whatever you write will be hugely appreciated. At the moment I am writing this, no one has even volunteered for three out of these four fandoms. Just by trying, you are making me very, very happy.

The Fandoms:

David Drake - The RCN Series

Adele Mundy

I am burning for good Adele fic like you wouldn't believe. I can totally see her as straight, gay, or as asexual as she keeps saying she is (though I can also see that last as the lady protests too much and is super-good at repression and fooling herself). However, what is most important to me is her. Her personality in all of its twisty, heroic, inquisitive stoic glory.

This series is basically Aubrey and Maturin IN SPACE!!!! Only instead of surprisingly sneaky doctor, you get surprisingly deadly librarian. What's not to love?

I'd love adventure RCN style - space, alien planets, Cinnabar, you name it, I love plot! Or an exploration of her character and/or relationships (yes, including platonic) with other characters and the world around her. A day in the life for her would be great. Gen, het or femslash are cool. Whatever you want, set at any point before, after or during the books, up to and including any AU or crossover you might desire. I just want *Adele* to be the star of the show.

Showdown in Little Tokyo

Johnny Murata, Minako Okeya

I really, really like Johnny Murata. You might have noticed that! Minako has the potential to be interesting too. I want fic about one or the other of them. Or both, I'm not picky.

For some reason there is no fic for this movie. Fandom, are you crazy? Look at the BRANDON LEE pretty! And he's snarky! And slashy! This is one short, cracktastic, easy to find movie, and I have a primer on how awesome it is right here

Wacky adventure fic like the movie would be cool, and so would Murata and Kenner friendship fic. Or hell, whatever you want, really. There is no fic for this fandom. Therefore, whatever you write would be a plus! Crossovers and AUs are totally cool as long as the SLT character is the main character.

I just don't want it to be a "Chris Kenner is a beautiful perfect romantic hero with no flaws at all who is not a silly man" worship-fest, because while he's a loveable character, what makes him lovable and interesting is that he is, you know. Completely ridiculous and bonkers. He's totally nuts!

Lonesome Dove Saga (book or tv)

Augustus McCrae aka Gus, Captain Woodrow FCall, Clara Forsythe Allen, Joshua Deets

This series also appears to break Rule 34. I don't understand it. And not just Rule 34, but any fic at all. The only fic I can find for this most epic of series is stuff for a spinoff tv series for characters who weren't even in the McMurtry books. This makes me sad.

Ladies, in one series CALL IS PLAYED BY KARL URBAN. I know how you feel about that. A Karl Urban character who lives with and raises a son with another man. And is a cowboy/Texas Ranger. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? The lack of fic is killing me here.**

Okay, I just realized the way that I phrased my request makes it sound like I want the fic to go AU at some point or be an AU. To clarify, while those things would be fine with me, I'd also love canon-y fic just as much if not more.

Any of these characters would be great, whatever you choose to write about them. I love all of them equally, and whatever you should happen to write about them would thrill me. I just would prefer it to be set at some point in the series before Gus's death. Because Gus!Death breaks my heart. I really, honestly don't care if you base your interpretations of the characters on the books or any of the mini-series or some combination***, I leave that up to your discretion. (Though I love the books like burning.)

And yes, I personally ship Gus/Call, but I also love the interpretation of their relationship as lifelong bffs and/or Call is in love with Gus while Call is Gus's bff.

Again, all the characters do not need to be in the fic. Just at least one of them.

Eric Flint - The Trail of Glory series

Charles Ball, Henry Crowell, Tiana Rogers

Any or all of these characters at any point before, during or after canon. These are such very cool people, and I feel like they got a bit of a short shift in the books in order to give Eric Flint more time to tell us, again and again, how wonderful the Scots-Irish are. (We get it, Eric, let's MOVE ON.)

They had awesome adventures! They were three of the most important players in building a FREAKING NATION! I want to hear about them. Particularly while they were building that freaking nation, but I will be happy with whatever you give me.

Sincerely,

Grey Bard

* Character betrayal, to my mind, includes murder, attempted murder, rape, stealing your significant other, or in any other way behaving in an evil fashion toward a character or their loved ones. If it didn't happen in canon, I really super don't want to see it.

** Yes, I know, it was not Karl's um. Best performance. Or the best portrayal of Call. I blame the director who seems to have worked really hard to make things more straight, and in the process made Call look like a moron, rather than confused and conflicted by heterosexuality. But surely the mental image is worth something as a motivating factor, at least!

*** No, he doesn't need to look like Karl Urban. Tommy Lee Jones is equally awesome! Or whatever you want. Just thought, you know. The Karl Urban thing might motivate you to get out there and write something.
