Dear Yuletide Writer
Dear Yuletide Writer,
Okay, first off, don't panic! It's not that I'm really asking you for bizarre moresomes, it's just that there are several specific characters I would like you to pick from. Okay? Cool.
I know that I may have ticked the ticky-box for a specific genre which you don't feel like writing. That's completely cool. Any genre you write will work for me, I was just ticking off my most-ideal imagined story. But frankly, I'm omnivorous. If you write it, I suspect I'll like it.
Personally, I am not into incest, statutory rape, non-canonical character betrayal* by a fellow hero or adultery. (Poly is not adultery, to my mind, nor is any sort of standing agreement.)
I love adventure, plot, humor, heroism and friendship alone or in any combination you can give me. Also? Aliens.
The things I am asking for are not just rare, they're super-rare. One has never been ficced before, as far as I can tell, and the rest have something like two fics ever. Whatever you write will be hugely appreciated. Just by trying, you are making me very, very happy.
The Fandoms:
Trail of Glory - Eric Flint
Charles Ball, Henry Crowell, Tiana Rogers, Marie LaVeau
Any or all of these characters at any point before, during or after canon. These are such very cool people, and I feel like they got a bit of a short shift in the books in order to give Eric Flint more time to tell us, again and again, how wonderful the Scots-Irish are. (We get it, Eric, let's MOVE ON.)
They had awesome adventures! They were four of the most important players in building a FREAKING NATION! I want to hear about them. Particularly while they were building that freaking nation, but I will be happy with whatever you give me.
It's a very cool idea for an AU and guess what! The first of the two books is available for free here.
RCN series - David Drake
Adele Mundy
I am burning for good Adele fic like you wouldn't believe. I can totally see her as straight, gay, or as asexual as she keeps saying she is (though I can also see that last as the lady protests too much and is super-good at repression and fooling herself). However, what is most important to me is her. Her personality in all of its twisty, heroic, inquisitive stoic glory.
This series is basically Aubrey and Maturin IN SPACE!!!! Only instead of surprisingly sneaky doctor, you get surprisingly deadly librarian. You can read the first three books for free here, here and here. What's not to love?
I'd love adventure RCN style - space, alien planets, Cinnabar, you name it, I love plot! Or an exploration of her character and/or relationships (yes, including platonic) with other characters and the world around her. A day in the life for her would be great. Gen, het or femslash are cool. Whatever you want, set at any point before, after or during the books, up to and including any AU or crossover you might desire. I just want *Adele* to be the star of the show.
The Incredible Hercules (comic)
Amadeus Cho, Delphyne Gorgon
There are not enough words for how much I love these two characters or the comics they appear in. I particularly like the new Prince of Power mini that they starred in together. (Which is coming out in collected edition soon.)
They're precocious, brilliant, and utterly ruthless and they love that about each other. Delphyne will do anything to free her people (the Gorgons), Amadeus will do anything (no, really, pretty much anything) to save a loved one in trouble. Together they have faced down gods for each other and faced down each other over their respective principles.
SHE is an Amazon of the enslaved Gorgon race, and a deadly warrior of the canniest kind. HE is the seventh-smartest human alive on Earth as long as he gets enough chocolate, and not above using his brains to coordinate some seriously clever headbashing. (He also hangs out with the Greek god Hercules.) Together they fight
What's not to love?
I love them together and separately and frankly, the more action and adventure and/or sheer clever scheming the better. I will, however, take anything with either of them in it because there's nowhere near enough of it and they're just that awesome.
These characters are older teenagers and borderline legal (it depends on where you live) so please, no NC17 if it is set in the present, as a favor to me, okay?
Les Contes d'Hoffman - Offenbach/Barbier
La Muse aka Nicklausse
Les Contes d'Hoffmann aka Tales of Hoffmann is a fantasy opera, presided over by a sardonic genderbending Muse. There is literally a sardonic genderbending Muse as one of the main characters. Hoffmann is under the impression that ze is his male best friend, when in reality ze is his Muse who wants to lure him away from his ridiculous romantic adventures in order to devote himself to hir his art. The opera is literally about the Muse pushing Hoffmann/Art and Genderbending Muse = OTP.
Look, here's what I posted when I first saw it on TV, in full, okay? (There are pictures!) MORE OF THAT, PLEASE. I'm going to be posting a more detailed write up about it on the lj comm operafic, um. Soon! Yes, soon. Right.
Here's my Yuletide prompt for it, verbatim: "The Muse, The Muse, the wonderful, sly, ambiguous, funny muse. The Muse/Hoffmann? The Muse backstory? The Muse having adventures as Nicklausse? The Muse popping up in different eras or with different artists, in crossovers or AUs? I do not care, I love them all."
Sincerely,
Grey Bard
* Character betrayal, to my mind, includes murder, attempted murder, rape, stealing your significant other, or in any other way behaving in an evil fashion toward a character or their loved ones. If it didn't happen in canon, I really super don't want to see it.
