Shibuki Jun in Jazzmania
SUPER impromptu stream (forgive the terrible picture): I’ve had a tumultuous last couple weeks (lots of downs, and a big up), but things seem to be settling down now, and dammit, it’s Pride here in Brooklyn and I need something sparkly to celebrate.

SO! Come share an All-Revue Takarazuka stream with me tonight! If you don't know what Takarazuka is, it is an all-female musical theater company in Japan, and their revues are Vegas-style song and dance extravaganzas.

Jazzmania (Shibuki Jun lead version), and Revue ‘99 (Aika Mire in a Revue-themed revue) possibly with other surprises after. 8:30 pm EST at https://cytu.be/r/Flashback_Project , come join me!

Legend of the Galactic Heroes
@ Takarazuka stream, tonight 5/28, 9 pm EST on https://cytu.be/r/Flashback_Project

LITERAL space opera!

Yoshiki Tanaka’s science fiction series “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” aka “Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu” and the all-female musical theater of the Takarazuka Revue. There are no subtitles yet, but as a  book fan, I will be able to explain the plot in chat.

Note, if you like Star Wars Clone Wars I suspect you’ll like Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The first three novels are out in English, and the new anime is supposedly due out this fall. (There’s a very, very, very long 90′s anime of it bootleg translated on Youtube, but you could just, you know. Read the books.)

The European timezone rescreening screening to come in the near future.

VHS cover of Singin in the Rain 2003 Hoshigumi

Back for another stream by popular request! Singin In The Rain (Hoshi, 2003). Starring Aran Kei, Yamato Yuuga and Hizuki Hana!

Poster with Shibuki Jun dressed as a pirate

Great Pirates (2001) and Blue Moon Blue (2000) stream! Tonight, 2/25, 9 PM EST!

Great Pirates: Shibuki Jun turns pirate to get revenge on other pirates!  Pirate dances ensue, as do wigs of varying quality. Bonus Yamato Yuga!

Blue Moon Blue: A revue with Makoto Tsubasa as a reincarnated prince looking for love, plus Shibuki Jun as an overly forward snake god. Great music, sparkly costumes aaaaand random bunny girls.

ETA: It’s going to be https://cytu.be/r/Flashback_Project after all, but we may need to move after Great Pirates for Blue Moon Blue. I’ll keep you posted.

So I’ve made the offer to fellow Takarazuka fans that I will rip their VHS tapes to DVD and/or video file for preservation for free.

If you want me to do that for you, I promise, I will not stream those video files without your permission. I will not give those video files to anyone else, except:

A) Someone else who has the exact same VHS, because I’m too lazy efficient to rip the same tape twice.

B) An academic librarian, on some far off day, for the preservation of the art form, if you fall off a cliff and die.

C) You, or someone who you tell me to.

Drop by https://cytu.be/r/Flashback_Project starting at 10 pm EST tonight for an online New Years Eve party of ridiculous. Luna with Shibuki Jun and Makoto Tsubasa and wee!Yamato Yuuga will be playing (Rock Stars! Moon gods! Mad scientists!) as well as selections from Action!

I have a mission for you, though, dear readers: Bring me links of delicious crack! If you know a ridiculous vid or clip* currently on Youtube (or other similar platform) and you feel like sharing.... Share with the party! We'll watch it together!

(*Please no rape, gory murder or other massively triggering things. Those can definitely be the subject of cracky dark humor, see the Game of Thrones vid "Heads Will Roll", but maybe not the right thing for tonight)

Singin in the Rain Takarazuka cover

Singin in the Rain the Takarazuka musical, starring Aran Kei as Don Lockwood and Yamato Yuuga as Cosmo Brown

Also, Dream Festival ‘94 celebrating 80 years of Takarazuka with all four troupes at the time, various musical numbers and FOUR different takes on Gone With The Wind including a comedic version and a set-in-Japan one.

TODAY Saturday, November 26, 9pm EST. There will be a morning stream next weekend for people residing in Europe, or who miss this stream.

Tomorrow, Sunday 10/23, 9:30 pm EST, I welcome you to the Takarazuka Flashback Project’s next stream of converted VHS vintage takarazuka, Tango Argentina (Hanagumi 2000) and the revue Prestige (Tsukigumi, 1996). I'll try to open the stream a half hour early with some music or clips from other revues.

Contrary to what I originally believed, it does not feature tango in Argentina. No, it features an Argentinian immigrant (I think) dancing tango in Paris. Because he’s an artist, and all artists must live in Paris, obviously! Also it features characters angstily dancing their feelings about World War I and a happy ending.

Prestige starts out as a dignified revue, and then degenerates into delicious crack. I heavily endorse it.

There will also be a morning stream on Monday 10/24 at 10:30 am EST.

Everyone welcome! (Even if you don't know me or anything about Takarazuka.)

First ever Takarazuka Flashback Project video livestream!

The show from Action! (aka Action! Act 1) starring Saki Asaji plus the Jazzmania revue starring Makoto Tsubasa!

9 pm EST, Wednesday 9/28!

Action! is a sf/fantasy crack show set at Christmas including robots, drunken wannabe rockstars and body-swap as well as Saki Asaji’s sunny, goofy smile. Jazzmania is a jazz-themed revue great for Makoto Tsubasa’s voice and Old Hollywood savoir faire... with random added anachronistic machine guns and silver lamé.

You don’t need to know anything about Takarazuka (sparkly genderbending musicals) or speak any Japanese to enjoy this stream, I promise! New fan-friendly!

The link will be posted on this journal, closer to the time.

Two weeks ago, during Vividcon, I tried to upload my new vid "Like it or Not" to Youtube. It was immediately frozen, before even going live, by a copyright claim. I uploaded my vid to Vimeo, but I decided to dispute it. I suspected the OTW might be able to help.

I spelunked around the website a bit until I found this: http://transformativeworks.org/news/youtube-blocking-your-vids-exercise-your-right-fair-use

I defended my vid as fair use as a transformative work, linked several of the authoritative sources linked in the post and never heard back. But tonight I went on to Youtube to see what happened, and my vid was live!

Thank you,Organization for Transformational Works!

Here it is, live on Youtube!

Dear Roommates, (yes, all of you), do let me know what you think of the starting episodes ofthe shows I hooked you up with. I'm really interested in what you make of them, for good or for ill. Feel free to tell me if you hated them and why! Of course, loving them would work too...

Dear Drag Queens I went to see at the con who are not reading this, I love you.

Dear All Muskrats, all of you were great and I enjoyed everyone I talked to. You rock! Fellow fans just make life so much better. How are you doing? Did you make it home without disaster? Talk to me!

People who may be interested in the awesome wtf that is My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic now, after I buttonholed you about it... I can help you with that!

People I told about Sam Winchester as Fenton The Death Sheep - you can find that vid here. Yes, his Demon Blood arc maps perfectly, season by season, onto the musical tale of a killer wooly lamb that took over hell.

People I told about the Q Is In Bed With Picard A Lot and chases him to I Want You Bad vid,it is here. (Yeah, same vidder, yeah, she's my friend, deal with it. The vids are OBJECTIVELY AWESOME.)

People I told about the two-part BBC Sherlock/Addams Family crossover where John is half-Addams, you can find them here.

People interested in vidding with netbooks, the programs I use are:

-This hack (which you're going to need to reinstall every time Windows updates but oh well) will fool your netbook into thinking it has greater resolution and thus allow you to run video editing programs that require it. (Free!)

- Handbrake and Dvd43 to rip source video from dvd (Free!)

- Super to convert source video into different formats for various vidding purposes (Free!)

- Corel Video Studio (I use it on my netbook, I like it a lot, and it does everything I could ask. Full version free for a month, and MUCH cheaper than Adobe if you choose to buy. Like 3 times cheaper. It costs more than when I bought an earlier version last year, but it's still relatively cheap and a month is enough time to make a vid anyhow.)

More on this later!

Mongor! What is best in life?

Some of you may know that I have a small, bratty foster cat. I am now pleased to announce that I have adopted the small, bratty foster cat*!

Everyone deserves a fun internet name, and thus, I declare this beast... MONGOR, KITTY BARBARIAN!

My cat is very fast, very strong and enthusiastic about killing things, all of which would make for a fantastic barbarian. He's also not very bright and a teeny tiny ten pound tom cat, but you can't have everything.

In recognition of this fact, I introduce him to you via his own personal home-vidded title sequence!

By the way,I am offering to make a similar title sequence to the music of your choice for your pet or pets (or kids, or friends, or self) as an item on help_japan. Bidding startshere at a mere $5!

*Well, I and my parents. Between the three of us, he will always have a home, even when my parents travel the world after retirement. For now I visit them on weekends.

grey_bard: (Scary writer place)

So if someone... theoretically, of course... wanted to make a constructed reality vid from the point of view of Mal in Inception with her as the narrator of Jonathan Coulton's Portal theme song "Still Alive" , possible added source video for this vid could best be found where? Suggestions?

To clarify, in its most basic form, this would be cheerfully malicious Mal explaining that, in fact, she's still alive, Dom is delusional, and she's laughing at him. Therefore, I need footage of "Mal" "alive" and outside the dream. Bonus points for footage of Leonardo Di Caprio or someone who can be used as a stand-in passed out in a hospital bed.

Of course, the alternate possibility is that by alive, it is the projection as narrator and Cobb didn't get rid of her after all, but that's only if I can't find suitable source - or you guys think the original idea was dumb.

Suggestions?

(Also, let me know if someone already did this and you happen to know about it)
